2013-2014 BACHELOR OF ENGINEERING GRADUATES

During the 2013-2014 academic year, 3 478 students have received their Bachelor of Engineering degree in Quebec. That is 289 more holders than in2012-2013.

DATA

This year, civil engineering / construction related specialties have the highest number of graduates with 951 graduates, an increase of 9% compared to lastyear. Interestingly, the trend that started in 2012-2013 has continued: the number of graduates in this sector exceeds that ofmechanical engineering graduates.

Although there is a very slight decrease (2%) of the number of graduates in electrical engineering, we note on the other hand an increase of 28% incomputer engineering / software graduates.

However, other engineering fields are not outdone with an increase of 16%. This is a turnaround since they had seen a decline of 5% in 2012-2013.

The following table shows the number of graduates according to degree specialty and Bachelor of engineering granting faculties in Quebec:

CONCLUSION

The engineering graduate population in Quebec counts 289 people more than last year, i.e. an increase of 9%. Civil engineering / construction related andcomputer / software activities represent areas where increases are the greatest.

One consequence of the Charbonneau commission has been to slow down some projects, so some graduates may look for their first job a little longer than inyears past. On the other hand, some employers who found it difficult to hire in the past because of a scarcity of resources could be favored by thiscurrent situation.

RESOURCES

Need a graduate in engineering? The Réseau des ingénieurs of Quebec provides a bulletin board to post jobs for students and graduates in engineering forfree. Several universities also offer job placement and internships. For more details, visit their website:
